My Story

I'm Alisher, 35 years old. I immigrated to Canada from Kyrgyzstan in 2022 with my family, looking for a better future. I work as a product manager at a fintech company in Montreal.

I got married at 22. We divorced in 2023 here in Canada. We have three kids together — ages 11, 9, and 5.

Immigration, a new language, endless paperwork, job hunting — all of it took a toll on our marriage. Getting divorced in a foreign country with three children is a completely different level of difficulty.

The Problem I Kept Running Into

My biggest challenges now are finances and time. Life in Canada with three kids means every dollar counts. Between work, household chores, kids' activities, and tutors, there's barely any time left. And on top of all that — the constant question of “who pays for what” with my ex-wife.

After the divorce, the hardest part wasn't the emotions — it was figuring out money. Judo classes, school supplies, winter jackets, dentist visits. Every week, it was “I paid for this, you paid for that, who owes what?”

We tried spreadsheets. We tried texting each other receipts. We tried splitting apps built for roommates. Nothing worked for our situation — two parents, three kids, different expense categories, different split rules.

Why I Built CoParentSplit

I built CoParentSplit because I needed it myself. As a product manager, I knew the tools that existed were either too expensive (OurFamilyWizard costs $200/year per parent) or not built for co-parents at all (Splitwise doesn't understand custody schedules or per-child tracking).

CoParentSplit is the app I wished existed when I got divorced. It answers one simple question: “You spent $X, they spent $Y, they owe you $Z.”
